The 2013 WWE Royal Rumble is just few days away and so is the actual Royal Rumble match itself. In the past, huge superstars have made their debut and their return to the WWE in the illustrious match. So, with yet another “Road To WrestleMania” about to begin as we head into
WrestleMania 29 season to kick-off the New Year, exactly who could see a WWE return as a surprise entrant into the 2013 Royal Rumble match itself ?
1. Shelton Benjamin
Shelton Benjamin wrote the following on Twitter when asked about a return to WWE:
"I should hope so. I still got plenty of gas in the tank"
2. MVP
It was noted earlier how MVP’s contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling may keep him from appearing at WWE’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view as an entrant in the main event. MVP responded to those reports on Twitter and noted that his deal with NJPW is per appearance and that he has no contractual obligation to them.
3. Undertaker
Whether you know him as the “Prince Of Darkness”, “The Deadman”, “The Phenom” or “The American Badass”, you simply cannot deny that WrestleMania is all about The Undertaker, and the twenty-ninth celebration of the event will likely be no exception. ‘Taker could see his return as a surprise entrant into the Royal Rumble match either eliminating his “target” that will become his WrestleMania opponent, or being eliminated by said target. Undertaker could feud with Brock Lesnar leading into WrestleMania season, or he could even target members of “The Shield”, The Rock, Ryback or potentially even John Cena or CM Punk. In Punk’s case, it would be a feud based on Punk’s lack of respect to the older generation of veterans, as seen most recently in his short rivalry with Kevin Nash.
4. Bill Goldberg
Goldberg has not been seen in the WWE since leaving at WrestleMania 20 in 2004. However, he is one of the most in-demand superstars for a WWE return. With “no time like the present” certainly applying to Goldberg, “Da Man” could indeed see one more run in the WWE in 2013 as soon as the Royal Rumble when he could appear as a surprise entrant heading into WrestleMania 29.
Goldberg teased a return to the ring on his Twitter earlier today. When a fan mentioned that the spear needed to be seen again, Goldberg replied, "It's coming..."
He later said that he wasn't trolling and meant what he wrote. He also stated that everyone knows his feelings about WWE, and that there was "not a chance in hell" that he would be appearing at The Royal Rumble this Sunday.
Another fan wrote, "I'm guessing this means you will never be in the WWE again?," to which Goldberg replied, "Great guess..."
5. Batista
While Batista has since embarked on a career in mixed martial arts, “The Animal” could indeed be unleashed again in 2013 if Batista returns in the Royal Rumble match. Having being absent from the WWE for a number of years after stating he was not happy with the PG product, the WWE, while still PG, has been a little bit more adult oriented since the rise of CM Punk and Paul Heyman and the return of The Rock. Batista, who has plenty of star power and a few good years left in him, could dominate the company if he should return.
6. Brock Lesnar
“The Next Big Thing” himself is a likely candidate for a Royal Rumble return as a surprise entrant as Lesnar has been signed through until a match at WrestleMania. Therefore, Lesnar could easily return and dominate the match eliminating his future WrestleMania 29 opponent or even being eliminated by him, thus setting up a feud. Prime candidates for a match with Lesnar include CM Punk, who has since been using the tutelage of Lesnar’s manager, Paul Heyman, to his advantage, a re-match with Triple H or a dream match against The Undertaker or John Cena.
The 2013 Royal Rumble could prove to be a huge pay per view event as CM Punk defends the WWE championship against The Rock in what is guaranteed to be an instant classic and a match of the year candidate, but the Royal Rumble match itself remains one of the most exciting prospects of the year. With the aforementioned names certainly prime candidates for a comeback, the likes of Carlito, MVP, Shelton Benjamin, Matt Hardy, Charlie Haas, John Morrison and other midcard names, not to mention, the likes of X-Pac, Kevin Nash, Sid Vicious and Chris Jericho could all potentially return as surprise entrants into the Royal Rumble match itself.
Finally, I Hope they will not bring back huge stars in a night!
